John William Kennedy, 85, died at 11:51 a.m. Friday, December 7, 2018 at his home. Born December 2, 1933 in Alton, he was the son of Laverne and Mae (Meyers) Kennedy. Mr. Kennedy was a member of the North Alton Southern Baptist Church. He enjoyed playing golf and racing his car “The Gambler.” He was a horseman and loved his horse “Freddie Buck.” Mr. Kennedy was an owner/operator of Bakers Dozen Donuts and also worked as a car salesman for Ray Gremli Chevrolet. On June 25, 1955 he married the former Mary Jo Wimberly in Wood River. She survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Johnell (Scott) Davis of Wood River, two grandchildren, Sean Webster and Courtney (Nick) Haida, two great grandchildren, Kenzie Haida and John Haida and a niece and nephew, Susan White and Steve White. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Verna Mae and Vincent White. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Reverend Sonny Renken will officiate. Burial will be at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana. Memorials may be made to the North Alton Southern Baptist Church or the Fosterburg Volunteer Fire Department Station #2.
