John Thierry, age 77 of Vandalia, Illinois, passed away Friday, April 24, 2026, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.
John was born March 3, 1949, in Clinton, Illinois son of William Alphonce and Mildred Nadine (McCoy) Thierry.
After graduating from Vandalia High School in 1968, John worked as a mechanic for several years. He worked at Benner-Nauman for 10 years and then owned and operated Vandalia Hydraulics for 10 years. John also owned Bunk House Leather in Vandalia.
John spent most of his life in the Vandalia community, and a few years in Alabama and Utah. He seemed to always find his way back to Vandalia. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and leather working.
He loved his family and friends, and nothing gave him more joy than his grandchildren. John was an honest, dependable, trustworthy man, who enjoyed a good laugh and had a very low tolerance for nonsense.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Charles Theirry, and 2 sisters: Patricia Merz and Joyce Wright.
He is survived by his sons: Donald (Jesse) Thierry of Vandalia, William (Debbie) Theirry of Mulberry Grove, and Jacob (Amber) Theirry of Mulberry Grove. Loving grandfather to: Megan Theirry, Haley Theirry, Conner Thierry and Zoie Thierry. Also surviving are his siblings: Deloris File of Alabama, Dorothy Kious of Washington, Sandy (Norman) Roy of Alabama, Sarah Cox of Georgia, and Joe Thierry of Vandalia.
