John Silvey Gerhardt, Jr. was born August 16, 1955 in Alton, Illinois to the union of the late John Silvey and Eula Mae (Taylor) Gerhardt, Sr.
John attended Alton public Schools and graduated in 1973. After graduation, He attended Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville majoring in business. Mr. Gerhardt was employed at Laclede Steel and later worked for Chrysler Plant until retirement. John enjoyed gardening and watching baseball. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Greater Saint James Church.
On Monday, April 18, 2016 at 4:32 a.m. at Kindred Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, John received eternal rest and peace. He was blessed with 60 years of life.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Left to cherish fond memories: his loving wife, Rose McClain Gerhardt; 5 children, Saidia R. Gerhardt, Jonissa A. Gerhardt, John S. Gerhardt, III, Johnica Gerhardt, and Javon Snipes; 2 grandchildren, Camryn Gerhardt and Aiyana (Williams) Gerhardt; 2 brothers, Kevin and Mark Gerhardt; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will convene Monday, April 25, 2016 from 9 until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Harrison Funeral Chapel. Pastor James Webb will officiate. Interment will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery.
