“It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of John Leonard Siemer of Batchtown and Alton, IL, affectionately known as “Grandpa.” Surrounded by loved ones, he peacefully departed this world on January 4th, 2024.
John was born on June 29th, 1941 in Batchtown, IL. John was a loving husband to his cherished wife Louise Siemer of 57 years, and together they built a foundation of neverending love and companionship. John served in the US Army from 1963-1965. He worked at Olin Winchester for 41 long years. After retirement, his time was spent in Batchtown on his and Louise’s farm raising cattle or spending time with his kids and grandkids. John sure did love his naps also and seemed to be able to doze off in even the loudest of settings!
He was predeceased by his parents Leonard and Anna Siemer. He is survived by his loving, devoted wife Louise Siemer, two brothers, Nick Siemer and Larry Siemer (Anita,) two children Michelle Bauer and Michael Siemer (Santina,) 5 grandchildren Morgan Hansen (Ryan Gray,) Kaylee Siemer, Makayla Bauer, Michael Siemer, and Keegan Rigdon, and great-granddaughter Harper Gray, great-grandchild Gray #2 is on the way, and countless nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The funeral showing will be held on Saturday, January 13th, 8:00 AM-9:30 AM at Gress Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home 207 S County Rd, Hardin, IL 62047. The funeral will follow at 10:00 AM at St. Barbara’s Church in Batchtown, IL, and burial after at St. Barbara’s Cemetery in Batchtown, IL. A reception will be held at St. Barbara’s Church following the burial.
Memorial donations may be made to masses or family choice.
During this time of mourning, let us remember John not with sorrow, but with gratitude for the countless moments of joy he shared, the lessons he imparted, and the love that he showered upon us all. Though he may no longer be physically present, his spirit lives on in the memories we hold dear and the values he instilled in each of us.“
