John Riggins

John Randall Riggins, 65 of Edwardsville, Illinois passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Barnes Jewish Hospital.

John was born on July 29, 1953 in Granite City, Illinois; the son of the late Charles “Bill” and Catherine “June” (Stark) Riggins. John attended Sacred Heart Grade School and Granite City High School. He was a journeyman electrician who joined the IBEW local 309 in 1978. John was an Electrician for Union Local 309 and had last worked for JF Electric and was known as an expert craftsman. John was a member of the Edwardsville Gun Club, National Rifle Association, Madison County Farm Bureau and the Oldsmobile Club of America. John enjoyed his days of fishing, hunting and tinkering in his barn. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandson’s, Caleb and Lucas. John will be remembered for all the special times he shared with his family and friends.

He is survived by and will be missed by his daughters; Natalie Riggins of Edwardsville, Illinois, Emilie Riggins of Edwardsville, Illinois; grandsons, Caleb and Lucas Shaw of Edwardsville, Illinois; brother, Kevin Riggins of Edwardsville, Illinois; sisters, Catherine Evans of Glen Carbon, Illinois, MaryLou Davis of Tamms, Illinois, Patricia Riggins of Edwardsville, Illinois; 8 nieces and nephews; 12 great-nieces and nephews and many other close family members and friends.  

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brothers; Charles Riggins, Paul “Joe” Riggins, William “Billy” Riggins; grandparents, Herman and Myrtha (Weston) Riggins, William and Isabelle (Kobel) Stack; 1 niece and 1 nephew.

In celebration of John’s life, a visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Charles West officiating at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville. Memorial donations are suggested to the American Liver Foundation, American Cancer Society or to the National Rifle Association. Following the burial there will be a luncheon at Doit’s Village Inn in Pontoon Beach at 4:00 p.m.
