John Kotzamanis

John “Papa” Kotzamanis, 83, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at Christian Northeast Hospital.He was born March 25, 1933, in Chios, Greece, the son of Evangelos and Angeliki (Kostandinidi) Kotzamanis. John married Rozalie Hozjan in Chicago, Illinois, on November 30, 1970. She survives. John was the owner/operator of Anna Maria in Chicago, St. Regis in Chicago, and then at last, Papa’s Restaurant in Spring Valley, Illinois. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, laughing, and was known to spoil his grandchildren.In addition to his wife, survivors include three children and their spouses, Angelo and Stacey Kotzamanis of Godfrey, Matt and Brandy Kotzamanis of Bethalto, Sandy and Daryl Stamper of Rosewood Heights; seven grandchildren, Angel Reynolds, Lacy Kotzamanis, Nicholas Kotzamanis, Eleni Kotzamanis, Christian Kotzamanis, John Kotzamanis, Nathan “Guppy” Kotzamanis; and three siblings and their spouses, James Kotzamanis of Chios, Greece, Lemonia and Spiro Balageorge of Winnipeg, Canada, Kiriaki and Tom Cavadas of Winnipeg, Canada.He was preceded in death by his parents.Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. on Monday, January 23, 2017, at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto with Pastor Steve Friese officiating.Burial will take place in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.An online condolence and guest book may be found at www.eliaskallalandschaaf.com
