John Marshall

John Marshall, of Burns, TN and formerly of Godfrey, died December 26th at Vandi Hospital in Nashville, TN at the age of 53.

John is survived by parents, Fred & Donna Marshall, of Jerseyville, IL; wife, Peggy Hougland Marshall, of Burns, TN; brothers Randy Marshall (Marsha), of Jerseyville, IL, and Von Marshall, of Jerseyville, IL; step-children Chasity (Ron) Myers, Burns, TN; Mike (Kim) Merryman, Nebo; Chris (Jamie) Merryman, Bowling Green, MO; grandchildren Kelsie Myers and Kendra Ferebee, Burns, TN; Kennedy, Kayla, Alyssa, and Nicholas Merryman, Nebo, IL; Chloe and Rylee Merryman, Bowling Green, MO; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister and his grandparents.

John was born on June 2, 1963 in Jerseyville to Fred and Donna Marshall. He graduated from Hardin High School as a member of the Class of 1981. He married Peggy Hougland in 1993. As an entrapanuer for over 30 plus years John used his talents and knowledge to improve the lives and community around him through floor installation in the entire Alton/Madison County area and neighboring communities. John worked with Ed Agles for years as an independent contractor before moving operations to Naples, FL in 1995. After 12 years John and Peggy once again relocated moving to be closer to family and settling in Burns, TN where they have lived and operated ProFloors for 9 years. Over the years their children, grandchildren, family and friends remember him as a driven fun loving friend who encouraged them to pursue their goals and was always up for anything.

John was accomplished at just about anything he put him mind to and often found the most enjoyment in trying to learn new things including woodworking projects, home brewing, and construction. An avid fisherman John was most at home with family and friends on the banks of the Illinois or in any of his numerous fishing boats owned throughout the years if he wasn’t with them pending time in his self made man caves. He was a dedicated individual who loved those close to him and who was passionate about living life.

A Celebration of Life visitation and service is scheduled for 10 – 11:30 am Saturday, December 31st, at Fieldon Church of Christ in Fieldon, IL, with a reception immediately following.
