John M. Delaney, Jr.

- Brighton

John M. Delaney, Jr., 60, passed away on August 2, 2017.

He was born on August 14, 1956 at St. Joseph Hospital in Alton, the son of John M. "Jack", Sr. and Joan (Galloway) Delaney.

A 1974 graduate of Marquette Catholic High School, he attended St. Louis University and continued onto St. Louis University School of Law.  He was the sole practitioner of the Law Offices of John M. Delaney, Jr. since 1997. He practiced law for more than 35 years and was an instructor  in the Criminal Justice Department at Lewis and Clark Community College for many years.  He was an incredible attorney who went the extra mile for everyone.  He didn't have an enemy on either side of the courtroom.

He was a loving and devoted father, companion, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.  He was known for his witty humor, his explosive ability to burst out in song at any time (even if not appropriate), his mercilessness in the courtroom, but most of all, for his big heart!  He never met a stranger and was willing to help anyone.  In his words, "no matter is too small" and "all that glitters is not gold!"

John is survived by his special love, Elle; his children, Maggie (Lance) Dillinger, Vicki (Mike) Sutton, Marty (Alice) Delaney; his grandchildren, Chloe Dillinger, Kole and Callie Sutton, and soon to be 4th grandchild; sister, Kathy Herbig; nephews, Andrew (Emily), Sam and Will Herbig; his "bonus" children, Nathan, Brandon, Arynne and Andrew; "bonus" granddaughter, Averi; first wife, Julie (Spurgeon) Beckham; and many other family and friends.

His parents and a brother-in-law, Pete Herbig preceded in death.

A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Marks Mortuary in Wood River is in charge of arrangements.
