John M. Barker, 86, died at 8:50 a.m. Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at his home. Born September 19, 1931 in Godfrey, he was the son of George Barker Sr. and Susie Lucille (Jones) Barker. Mr. Barker served with the Marine Corps in Korea and was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Alton. He worked for the Olin Corporation and retired as traffic manager for Con-Agra. He married the former Ann Elizabeth Hallek in Alton. She survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Ellen Marie Bartel of St. Louis, MO and two brothers, Glen Barker of Brighton and Dale Barker of Fosterburg. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Edward, Robert, Bill and Paul Barker and one sister, Maryann Landreth. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until time of funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Reverend Cindy Sever will officiate.
