John L. Rogers, 76, died at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton. Born July 29, 1941 in Monmouth, IL, he was the son of John B. and Nona (Lee) Rogers. Mr. Rogers graduated from Alexis High School in Alexis, IL in 1959. He attended Notre Dame University and graduated from Benedictine College in Atchison, KS with a B.S in 1964. He earned his master’s degree from Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL and did post graduate work at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey. During his career he was a teacher, coach and assistant principal at Marquette Catholic High School from 1964-1984; 1986-2003. On June 26, 1982 he married the former Katherine F. Going. She survives. Also surviving is a son, John G. Rogers (Whitney) of Granite City, one grandchild, Addison, a brother, Charles A. Rogers of Alexis, IL, two brothers-in-law; Ron Going and Robert Going (Sharon), sister-in-law; JoAnn Going, nieces and nephews and his best buddy Seamus. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Nell Ann Rogers, Mother and Father in Law, Brother-in-law, sister-in-law, and a nephew. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2018 at Marquette Catholic High School. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2018 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey. Father Steven Janoski will officiate. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey. Memorials may be made to Marquette Catholic High School, Benedictine College or St. Benedict’s Abbey at the college.
