John “Jack” Terlisner a life-long resident of the Alton area, passed away peacefully under the care of St. Anthony’s Hospice Team on April 30, 2016 at the age of 85. He was the oldest son of John and Rosella (Broemmel) Terlisner, born on May 26, 1930 in Alton. A graduate of Alton High School, he served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and was Honorably discharged in 1955. He was employed for 46 years with Owens Illinois in both the Alton plant and later at the Godfrey Machine Shop where he retired in 1994.
He married Veronica “Sis” (Rodgers) on February 19, 1966 and spent 48 years with her until her passing in 2014. Together they raised three children all who survive with their spouses: John and Jodie of Atlanta, Georgia; William of Quincy, Illinois; and Theresa and Edward Northcutt of Godfrey. Four grandchildren Edward and Katie Northcutt and Jack and Peter Terlisner. Jack is also survived by three sisters Lois Riordan of Princeton, Illinois, Ruth Croxton of Alton, and Rita Velloff and her husband Jim of Alton. A sister-in-law Patricia Terlisner of Newport, Rhode Island and two brothers-in-law Malcolm Gray of Deland, Florida and Henry Rodgers of Silverado, California.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, his sister Rosemary Murphy, a brother Richard Terlisner, and an infant grandson Louis.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of the funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2016 at St Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey where he was a long time parishioner. Father Steve Pohlman will officiate.
Arrangements are by Gent Funeral Home, Alton, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the “John & Veronica Terlisner Scholarship Fund” at Marquette Catholic High School or to the St. Ambrose Grade School Endowment.
