John Wilson

John J. Wilson Jr., 85, died at 11:22 p.m. Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Alton Memorial Hospital ER. 

Born March 9, 1933 in East St. Louis, IL, he was the son of John J. Wilson Sr. and Mary (Vollmer) Wilson.  Mr. Wilson served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Wood River. 

He was also a member of the East Alton American Legion Lodge #0794 for 43 years.  He enjoyed RC air planes, trap shooting, boating and generally liked to be outdoors.  He retired after more than 30 years of service as a press maintainer for Continental Can Company later known as Crown Cork and Seal. 

On March 3, 1973 he married the former Martha Krotz in Alton.  She survives. 

Also surviving are five children, Mary Beth Schroeder (Neal) of Knob Noster, MO, Jackie Augur (Mark) of Smithville, MO, Mary Ann Pinkard (Kile) of Godfrey, John A. Wilson of Independence, MO, and Andrew Wilson (Amanda) of Roxana, 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and two sisters, Rosemary Harvey of Georgia, and Patricia Kruse (Gary) of Wood River. 

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Frank Wilson, one grandchild, and two brothers, William “Bill” Wilson and James Wilson. 

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Wood River.  Father Jeff Holtman will officiate. 

Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. 

Memorials may be made to Holy Angels Catholic Church or Masses.
