John Gerstner

John George Gerstner, age 84, of Glen Carbon, Illinois, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2026. He was born on November 30, 1941, in Webster Groves, Missouri, where he was raised by his parents, George and Dorothy Gerstner, who preceded him in death.

John dedicated his professional life to the electrical contracting industry at Gerstner Electric, Inc. Known for his strong work ethic, integrity, and commitment to serving others, he built a reputation as a skilled contractor and a man whose word could always be trusted.

For nearly 30 years, John and Diane built a life centered on faith, family, and devotion to one another. John cherished every moment spent with his family, loved caring for his many pets, and found great joy and fellowship in attending church.

John will be remembered most for his big heart, his generosity, and the humility with which he carried himself. He worked tirelessly for those he loved, never seeking recognition for his sacrifices and kindness. Whether offering help, encouragement, or simply his presence, John had a remarkable ability to make others feel valued and cared for. His quiet strength, steadfast faith, and selfless spirit left an enduring mark on all who knew him.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Diane Gerstner; his children, Steve Gerstner (Kelly), Kathleen Shelton (Patrick), Chris Gerstner (Jill), Katie Taylor (Richard), and Kelli McFain; his sisters, Anne Miller and Elizabeth Hickey; his grandchildren, Steven Gerstner (Mindy), Samantha Gerstner, Taylor Shelton, Dylan Shelton, Lydia Shelton, Heather Bodenschatz (Brandon), Candace Gerstner, John Gerstner, Molly Gerstner, Caleb Taylor, Caden Taylor, Ally Grimont, Shawn Grimont, and Aaden Grimont; and his great-grandchildren, Bryson Bodenschatz, Oliver Bodenschatz, Elsie Saake, Jacob Saake, George Gerstner, and McKenna Gerstner.

John's legacy lives on through the family he loved so deeply, the example of faith and humility he set, and the countless lives he touched through his generosity and service to others.

A visitation will be held on Monday, August 17, 2026, at Weber & Rodney Funeral Home in Edwardsville, IL from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm.  A funeral Mass will take place at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Edwardsville, at 10:00 am on Tuesday, August 18, with the Very Reverend Jeffrey Goeckner presiding.
