John Elbert Julian, age 95, passed away at 2:23 am Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton.

He was born on January 12, 1918 in Cline’s Island, MO, to the late George and Ella (Phelps) Julian.

He married Nellie Mae Peters. She preceded him in death.

John was employed as a mechanic for Ozark Airlines. He was a 32nd degree Mason in Sikeston, and a member of the VFW in Sikeston and Alton. Mr. Julian was a Marine who served in Guadalcanal during WWII. He was a gunner on a Douglas-Dauntless dive bomber. He served in the Korean War as well. He also served in the Civilian Conservation Corps of New Madrid, MO.

John is survived by three sons and their spouses, Barry and Gaye Julian of Edwardsville, Jeff and Tammy Julian of Godfrey and George R. and Donna Julian of Alton; six grandchildren, Benjamin and his spouse Megan Julian, Matthew, Nicholas, John, Wendy, and Jeff Julian; three great-grandchildren, Hailey and  Andrew Julian and Kaylee Roth. 

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and four siblings, George, Wanda, Camille, Wilma, his half brother, Alva and half sister, Beatrice.  

A private family service will be held at Elias Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
