John M. Carroll, 84, passed away at 4:18 am on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Cedar Creek of Godfrey.
He was born on October 5, 1939, in Pittsfield, IL to John & Joyce (Kendall) Carroll.
He married Pamela Flory on April 14, 1962. She survives.
John graduated from East Alton - Wood River High School where he played football. He proudly served in the Air Force Reserve and the Reserve Officers' Training Corps. He later received a Bachelor of Accounting from the University of Illinois. John was employed by Jefferson Smurfit and held the position of Chief Financial Officer at the time of retirement.
John was active in the community and sat on the Board at OSF St. Anthony's Health Center. He enjoyed boating, golfing, and fishing trips to Canada. John was particularly proud of his Model A Ford Truck.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by a son, Robert (Sara) Carroll of St Louis, MO; a daughter, Sue (Troy) Patton of Godfrey; four grandchildren, Xen (Sam Williams) Caro of Wisconsin, Lisa Carroll of Naples, FL, Samantha Patton of Godfrey, and Rylie Patton of Godfrey; a great-grandchild, Sienna Williams; a brother, Michael Carroll of Alton; along with several nieces, nephews, extended family members and good friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Richard Carroll, and a sister-in-law, Kaye Carroll.
Cremation rites were accorded.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Friday, February 16, 2024, at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey.
Private funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey. Deacon Bill Kessler will officiate.
Inurnment will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery.
