John Bennett

John M. Bennett, 72, died at 10:45 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Liberty Village Nursing Home in Jerseyville.

Born April 10, 1952 in Medora, he was the son of Melvin Bennett and Bertha (Prather) Bennett.

A life-long resident of rural Medora, he farmed his entire career raising crops and livestock, first in partnership with his father, Melvin, and then continued until harvesting his final crop in fall 2024.

Surviving are his two brothers and sisters-in-law, Daniel (LuAnn) Bennett of Shipman and Brian (Deb) Bennett of Brighton; stepmother, Betty Bennett of Medora, stepsister and her husband, Donna (Kent) Scheffel of Edwardsville; stepbrothers, Mark Hellrung (Beth Fanning) of Kemper and Tim Hellrung (Rachel Woods) of Medora. Also, numerous nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 4:00pm to 7:00pm on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Medora, Illinois where he was a member, trustee, and teller. Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 28, 2025, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Officiating the funeral service will be Pastor Rob Cleeton joined by Pastor Sherman Smith.

Burial will be at Medora Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Medora or the Medora Cemetery Association.
