John A. Lorsbach

John A. Lorsbach, 77, passed away suddenly at 3:25 p.m. January 5, 2010 at Alton Memorial Hospital. He was born on March 22, 1932 in Hardin, IL the son of William F. & Margaret Mary (Bullier) Lorsbach. He married Patricia (Baine) on June 6, 1959 at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Richmond Heights, MO. She survives.

He was a veteran of the Air Force and then worked as the comptroller for Owens' Illinois Glass Manufacturing and retired in 1991. He was a very active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and school in Alton, a member of the Alton-Wood River Sportsman's Club, a member of the Alton Knights of Columbus and a board member of the United Way. He was a loving husband and father. He enjoyed family vacations at Kentucky Lake.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by five daughters and sons-in-law, and one son; Ann & Phillip Duckworth of Louisville, KY, Mary & John Ackermann of Saunderstown, RI, Greg Lorsbach of Godfrey, Margaret & Michael Johnson of Oxford, PA, Clare & Craig Clancy of Godfrey, and Susan & Jim Schmitz of Fairport, NY; fourteen grandchildren, P.J., Josh, Matt, Hilary and Melanie Duckworth; Nathan & Lucas Ackermann; Mackenzie, Molly, and Maura Johnson; Noah & Riley Clancy; Katie & John Michael Schmitz; and one sister, Joyce Lorsbach of East Alton. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Thomas M. Lorsbach.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Friday January 8, 2010 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton where a rosary service will be held at 4:00 pm with Brother John Luong, OMV officiating. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Saturday January 9, 2010 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton with Fr. Jim Walther OMV celebrating.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic School or the American Diabetes Association.
