Johanna Neal

Godfrey |

Johanna R. Neal, age 93, passed away at 1:10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at

Integrity Health Care, after a short illness.

She was born on August 30, 1923 in Livingston, IL the daughter of the late Stephen and Johanna (Gubany) Uher.

She married Monroe H. Neal in Livingston, IL.  He preceded her in death in 1975.

Johanna graduated from Livingston High School. She then attended Beauty School and was very proud of that accomplishment.  Her greatest occupation was being a wife and mother of 8 children.  Johanna was very artistic and channeled that talent into sewing beautiful clothes for her children and grandchildren.  She made Halloween costumes, prom dresses, bridesmaid dresses and over a thousand dolls.

She had always been a devoted Christian.  She would be seen reading her Bible daily, to give her strength to handle 8 children, and later as a form of comfort.  In her later years, she sang in the choir at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Staunton.  Johanna was always optimistic and had a gentle spirit.  She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by two sons, Mark (Renee) Neal of Glen Carbon, IL and Jeffery (Kim) Neal of Bethalto, Illinois; five daughters, Patricia Neal of Godfrey, Illinois, Pamela (Thomas) Gillette of Godfrey, Illinois, Shelia (John) Applegate of Florida, Carol Neal of South Carolina and Mary (Dale) Bradshaw of California; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Neal of Godfrey, Illinois; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; many other loving relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Michael Neal; and two sisters, Anna Pierce and Marjorie Payne.

Cremation rites will be accorded.

Graveside service will be at 11 am, Wednesday December 14, 2016 at Staunton Memorial Cemetery in Staunton, IL with Father George Radosevich officiating.

Burial will be at the Staunton Memorial Cemetery in Staunton, IL.

Memorial may be directed to the St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
