JoEllen Lucas, age 85, formerly of Alton, passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2018, at Morningside Assisted Living in Godfrey.
She was born March 17, 1933, in Vincennes, IN, the daughter of Edgar and Bessie (Cooper) Ready. She married William James Lucas on August 7, 1958, and he preceded her in death on March 1, 2015.
JoEllen enjoyed bowling in her younger years. She also enjoyed crocheting, and was an avid reader. JoEllen also loved playing cards. Her greatest joy was watching her grandchildren play sports and participate in other activities.
She is survived by five children and their spouses, Linda and Jimmy Bivens of Alton, Lisa and Dean Pearson of Godfrey, Joe Lucas of Alton, Michael and Anita Lucas of Godfrey, and Scott and Michelle Lucas of Rosewood Heights; three siblings, Jesse Ready, Oliver and Janet Ready, and Wanda and Paulee Watson; ten grandchildren, Taylor Bivens, Brhett and Christopher Willis, Erin Bivens, Bradley Pearson and his fiancée, Katie Lingle, Molly Pearson, Whitney and Richard Wiley, Micheala Lucas, Cora Lucas, Emma Lucas, and Macie Lucas; two great-grandchildren, Garrus Wiley, and Gavyn Willis; and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, William; she is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Delores Roberson, and Beauton Seib; and two brothers, Richard Ready and Gene Ready.
The family would like to sincerely thank Morningside Assisted Living and Heartland Hospice for the loving care and compassion they showed their mother.
Visitation will be held Saturday, December 29, 2018, from 9:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton.
Burial will take place in Valhalla Cemetery in Godfrey.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice.
