Joel D. Elam, 75, of Alton, passed away Monday, September 10, 2018 at 10:30 pm at Alton Memorial Hospital.
He was born January 22, 1943, in Alton, the son of John and Hilda (Wetzel) Elam. On December 30, 1965 in Roxana, IL he married Alice Ogg, she preceded him in death on October 18, 2007.
Joel served his country in the United States Army from 1966 until 1968.
He was a Certified Public Accountant for Edwards Jones for many years before retiring. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing and bowling. He was a Cardinals baseball fan; and enjoyed horse racing, even qualifying for the World Series of Handicapping Horse Racing a few times.
Joel is survived by three sons, Cory (Kathy) Elam of Cottage Hills, IL, Jeffrey (Laura) Elam of St. Charles, MO, and Timothy (Beth) Elam of Nashville, TN; 5 grandchildren; and a brother, Dale (Jackie) Elam of Charlotte, NC.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Alice.
Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.
