JoAnn Martin

JoAnn Lucille Martin, nee Yuengel, 81, of Swansea, IL, born July 12, 1944, in Belleville, IL, passed away Sunday, August 10, 2025, at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, IL, surrounded by her family.

JoAnn was known for her infectious laugh by all who met her. She loved Elvis, enjoyed family gatherings, birthdays, bingo, scratch offs and had a sweet tooth for ice cream. JoAnn’s greatest joy was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Violet, nee Lehr, Yuengel; a granddaughter in infancy, Samantha JoAnn Gruenewald; and two brothers-in-law, Bob Bittle and Joseph Marcin.

Surviving are a son Jeffery Martin; a daughter, Sharon (David) Gruenewald; three grandchildren, Crystal Stephens, Sarah (Joseph Thielemann) Gruenewald, and Jacob Gruenewald; four great-grandchildren, Landon, Luca, Elle and Delilah; two loving sisters, Betty Bittle and Shirley Marcin; nieces and nephews, Tammy (Lawrence) Fix, Lori (Russ) Kough, Bobby (Janet) Bittle, and Tim (Kelly) Adams; her dear lifelong friends, Sandy (Ron) Jackson and Sherry McFarland; and numerous great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give special thanks to Mercy Rehab and to Rodney Conner for treating mom like their own over the past few years.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, August 14, 2025, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL, Rev. Douglas Stewart officiating.

A private family burial will be held at a later date.
