Dorothy Joann Johnson, 75, died at 5:30 a.m., Monday, November 9, 2009 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. She was born on March 19, 1934 during a snowstorm on the family farm just west of Michael, Il, the only child born to the late John & Dorothy (Barry) Baumann. Joann grew up in Calhoun County, and graduated from Hardin High School in 1952. She married Joseph A. Johnson on Sept. 17, 1953 at the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Michael, and they recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. For many years, Joann & Joe resided in Carrollton, where they raised their two daughters, and was employed for 19 years at the Butler Dairy Bar and also in dietary at Boyd Memorial Hospital both in Carrollton. The core of Joann's life was her family, and she deeply loved and cared for her grandchildren & great grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking for them, teaching them prayers, as well as watching any sort of musical program. Surviving are her husband, Joseph A. Johnson of Jerseyville; two daughters & sons in law, Linda & Ralph Sievers of Jerseyville, and Peggy & David Dixon of Carrollton; six grandchildren & their spouses, Anna & Nick Thuer of Bunker Hill, Ralph & Anne Sievers of Evansville, Michael & Pam Dixon of Mehlville, Mo., Amanda & Josh Mann of Jerseyville, Jamie & Aaron Mehrtens of Millstadt, and Ashely Dixon, and her companion, Drew Lansaw, she of Carrollton, and he of Greenfield; seven great grandchildren, Trent, Caitlyn, Alexander, Grant, Hannah, Levi & Ava. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where a prayer service will be said at 3:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville, with Father William Hembrow officiating. Burial will be in St. Norbert's Catholic Cemetery in Hardin. Memorials may given to Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville, for the purchase of new candelabra's in Joann's memory.
