Joann Blaeser

Joann (Hagen) Blaeser, 81, formerly of Jerseyville, died at 8:20 p.m., Monday, April 8, 2024 at Calhoun Nursing and Rehab Center in Hardin.

She was born on November 15, 1942 in Brussels, one of four children born to the late Hubert James and Ella Ida (Wilschetz) Hagen.

Joann spent the early years of her childhood residing in Calhoun County, prior to the family settling in Jerseyville, where she graduated with the Class of 1961 from Jersey Community High School.

She was employed as a Secretary at Sievers Electronics in Jerseyville for 32 years, and also served as an Election Judge with the Jersey County Democratic Party for many years.

She married John Edgar Blaeser Jr. on June 10, 1961 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Jerseyville. Their marriage was blessed with 39 years, and many wonderful memories spent traveling together, prior to his death on November 29, 2000.

Traveling remained important to Joann throughout her life, and she looked forward to her annual trips to Biloxi, Mississippi with her family.

She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and also enjoyed crafts and working with flowers, creating many beaded jewelry creations for her family and friends.

By far her greatest joys in this life were being a loving mother and a proud and doting grandmother.

Surviving are a daughter and son in-law, Christina “Tina” and Danny Jackson of Hardin; two grandchildren, Megan (Connor) Hayes of Sedalia, Missouri and Jacob Jackson of Hardin; two great grandchildren, Piper and Thatcher Hayes; as well as a sister and brother in-law,  Dixie and Greg Bates of Jerseyville.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Tyler John Jackson; a brother, Marlin Hagen, and his wife, Ramona; a sister, Kay Partridge; as well as two nieces, Sheri Gaffner and Amy East.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., Monday, April 15, 2024 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Mass of Christian burial will follow at 12:15 p.m. at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville.

She will be laid to rest alongside her husband at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery in Jerseyville.
