Joan L. Mundt, 87, passed away September 7, 2017 at Bethalto Care Center.
Born on October 9, 1929 in Madison , WI, she was the daughter of Archie L. and Lula (Reppen) Lucas.
Affectionately refereed to as "The Wilderness Woman of the North", she graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1951 and always remained an avid Badger fa. It was said that when games got close for either the Badgers or the Packers, towards the end of the game, she would redirect her nervous energy by getting on her n=hands and knees and hand wash the kitchen floor for luck.
Joan had served as Librarian at SIU-Edwardsville and University of Oshkosh in Wisconsin before retiring. She shared her love of the outdoors with family and friends around a campfire. She could handle and axe and cut wood too.
On November 28, 1952, she married Frederick J.C. Mundt. He survives.
Surviving also are her children, Mary Jo (David) Harmon, Rick (Kim) Mundt, Randy (Leza) Mundt and Steve (Tina) Mundt; nine grandchildren, Lucas, Rachel, Rekel, Christopher, Sarah, Emily, Aaron, Abby and Ally; and great granddaughter, Ava.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Paul Lucas.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be conducted at 4 p.m., Saturday, September 9 at the 1st United Methodist Church in Wood River, where she had been a longtime member. Pastor David Rose will officiate.
