Joan Berry

Joan Berry fell asleep in the peace of Christ at Evelyn's House in Creve Coeur, Missouri, on January 1, 2024, at the age of 82.


She was born into this life on December 4, 1941, in Glen Carbon, Illinois. She was the daughter of the late Christian Masiero and Lillie Mae (Dunn) Masiero. God gave her rebirth into his Kingdom of Grace through Holy Baptism on December 7, 1941, and later she was confirmed in the Christian faith on April 11, 1954, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Cottage Hills, Illinois.

Joan was joined in the bonds of Holy Matrimony to Herman Berry on June 9, 1980.

She was an operator and supervisor at Olin Corporation for over 33 years, retiring on January 30, 1998. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto for many years.

Joan is survived by a sister, Joy Kohler of Aiken, SC; a daughter, Ann (Gary) Ballesteros of Bethalto, and a son, Robert (Robin) Berry of Alton; seven grandchildren, Jason (Ranee) Ballesteros of Lafayette, Indiana, Kiley (Jeremy) Pfeifer of Bethalto, Nick (Ashleigh) Ballesteros of Moro, Ryan Ballesteros of Bethalto, Jamie Ballesteros of Bethalto, Jack Berry of St. Louis, and Theodore Berry of Alton; fifteen great-grandchildren, Jacob, Kaitlyn, Bradley, Karson, Karter Pfeifer, Kyle, Brock, Cade, Jaxon, Ava Ballesteros, Drayden Wallendorf, Brayden Rose, Kynlie, Landon, and Kynadie Gibbons.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Berry; a son, Kenneth Flannery; sisters, June Masiero and Thelma (Robert) Flannery; and a brother, Donald (Naomi) Rogers.


Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2024, from 2 to 5 pm, at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Visitation will continue on Monday, January 8, 2024, from 10 am until time of service at 11 am, at Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto. Pastor Kale Hason and Pastor Brandon Metcalf will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.


Memorials are suggested to Zion Lutheran School.
