Jerry Abert

Jerry L. Abert, 72, died, peacefully, Thursday, June 30, 2016 at OSF St. Anthony's Hospital, after his short battle with cancer. Born September 9, 1943 in Granite City, he was the son of Clarence and Lula (Westbrook) Abert. A graduate of St. Bernard School and Marquette Catholic High School, he completed three years of college at the Alton Campus of SIU. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Jerry spent the first part of his professional career, working in the family business of Abert Siding with his father and two brothers. He then worked on his own as owner of Abert Siding and Windows Co., where his daughter joined him in the business. He will be sadly missed by many long time employees and friends including, loyal friends and confidants, Coleen Bernhardt and Josh Wilcut. Jerry retired from the remodeling industry in 2009 and pursued his life long passion as an antique and collectible collector and dealer. He is survived by his daughter, Amber Abert Hobbs; granddaughter, Darby O. Hobbs of East Alton; friend, Jacqueline Francis of Godfrey; sister, Mary Ann Abert Robertson of Jackson, MO; two brothers, Vernon Abert of Kentucky, Tom Abert of Moro; and former wife,Teresa Abert of Godfrey. A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held from 2-5 p.m., Sunday, July 10 at High Flyers Restaurant in Bethalto. Memorials may be made in his honor to the Riverbend Juniorettes (at The Bank of Edwardsville) or Riverbend Family Ministries in Wood River. Marks Mortuary in Wood River is in charge of arrangements.
