Jerry Lynn File, age 75 of Pocahontas, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the Smith Grove Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Smith Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the church. For those who desire, memorials may be made to Smith Grove Baptist Church, Redeemer Baptist Church of Panama, or the Pocahontas Sports Boosters. Donnell – Wiegand Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Jerry Lynn was born April 11, 1951, in Highland, Illinois. He was the son of Wallace Gene and Della Lucille Massey File. He grew up on the File family farm, attending the local schools, and graduating from Greenville High School with the Class of 1970.
Jerry and Terry Dothager were united in marriage on November 27, 1976, at Mulberry Grove First Baptist Church. They have enjoyed years of marriage and have been together for over 50 years. They had two children, Jerad and Erin. Jerry was a farmer throughout his life, continuing a family tradition. He and Terry were faithful members of Smith Grove Baptist Church. Jerry was a deacon at the church and enjoyed serving the Lord.
When Jerry was not farming, he enjoyed driving the school bus for the Pocahontas Schools. His route for over 30 years was from Pocahontas to Old Ripley. Jerry had been driving so long he had entered his 3rd generation of students. He loved driving to sporting events the most. Jerry was a huge Pocahontas Indians fan! Jerry was also a St. Louis Cardinals Fan and loved watching as many games as he could.
Jerry is survived by his wife Terry, son Jerad File and wife Amy of Mulberry Grove, daughter Erin Church and husband Justin of Pocahontas, his mother Della File, grandchildren: Jeri Adelle File, Amanda Jordan Maier and husband Gabe, Joshua Aaron File, and Ethan Largent. Also surviving are siblings: Marcia Guffey and Loren File and wife Cheryl, and an honorary son Dwayne and wife Angie Pemberton.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gene File; his mother-in-law, Marilyn Dothager; his father-in-law, August Dothager; and his brother-in-law, Duane Guffey.
