He was born on June 11, 1941 in Alton, IL. , the son of the late David and Lucille (Tungett) Sloan. .
He married Phyllis Roach on April 22, 1961 in Alton, Illinois. She survives.
Jerry was employed at the Colonial & wonder Bread Company for 32 years as a route salesman retiring 1994. He was a member of the Community Baptist Church in Lebanon, MO where he served as an Usher and Trustee for the Church. He was also a member of Cowboys for Christ. He enjoyed riding horses, and fly fishing with his family. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters; Kimberley and her spouse Ronald Crum of O'Fallon, MO, and Christy Sloan of Highland, IL. Lisa and her spouse Mark Heil of Bloomington, IN. and Katherine and her spouse Steve Phillips of Granite City, IL. eleven grandchildren; Corey and his spouse Britany Crum, Tyler Crum, Jason and his spouse Pam Hildreth, Jamie and her spouse Josh Runion, Robert Reynolds III, Bryan Reynolds, Annie Reynolds, Lindsey Sloan, Blake Heil, Casey Heil, and Cameron Phillips, five great-grandchildren; Landon Crum, Lacey Crum, Kaitlyn Hildreth, Hayden Runion, and Kaiya Hildreth, a brother; Donald Sloan of Cottage Hills, Il, and one sister; Rebecca Hunt of Moro, Il. .
He was also preceded in death by his parents.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 2 to 6 pm Friday, January 1, 2010 at the Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, IL. Services will be conducted at 10 am, Saturday, January 2, 2010 at the Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, with Pastor Alan Reeves and Rev. Father Peter John Gillquist Officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens, Bethalto, Illinois.
Memorials may be directed to the Special Olympics.
