Jerome Romano

Jerome Romano, 75, passed away at 1:49 p.m. on Friday, February 21, 2025, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon, IL.

He was born on May 23, 1949, in Alton, IL, the son of the late John Romano Sr. and Catherine (Leonard) Romano.

Jerome graduated from Alton High School and later worked as a laborer for Olin Corporation until his retirement in the 1990s. He had a passion for fishing and BBQ, which brought him great joy throughout his life.

He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law: Pamela D. (Roger) Stewart of Cottage Hills, IL; Chantelle M. (Thomas) Romano-Holmes of Florissant, MO; and Tonya (Adam) Walsh of Wood River, IL. He also leaves behind four sons: Jerome “J.J.” Romano Jr. of Godfrey, IL; Darin E. (Regina) Romano of Coffeen, IL; Nick (Tiffany) Romano of Alton, IL; and John (Tiffany) Romano of Alton, IL.

Jerome was a proud grandfather to nineteen grandchildren: Kimberly, Paige, Andrew, Ryan, Isabella, Brandon, Ian, Jason Jr., Caleb, Kaylynn, Alex, Ronin, Gwen, Isabella, Alex, Athena, Lilly, Darin Jr. and Gabriel.

He is also survived by two brothers: Terry W. Romano of Beardstown, IL, and Eugene Romano of Beardstown, IL.

In addition to his parents, Jerome was preceded in death by a beloved grandchild, Maria Stewart, and his best friend and brother, John Romano Jr.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home, 1313 West Delmar, Godfrey, IL.

Burial will take place at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Alton.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association, or St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.
