Jennie Louise Parris, 70, 6:27 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2012 at Alton Memorial Hospital. Born February 6, 1942 in Winfield, Kansas, she was the daughter of Levi C. and Marie (Sims) Mowder. She worked as a secretary for Southwestern College in Winfield, KS and at Lewis & Clark Community College retiring in 2007. She was a very active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had served as president of the Relief Society at the church. In 1960 she married Earnest Parris. They later divorced.
Surviving are two daughters, Jeri Freeman (Randall) of Sand Springs, OK, and Laura Underwood (Mark) of Burr Oak, KS, one son, Bruce Parris (Gidget) of Bartlesville, OK, eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two brothers, Levi Mowder (Mary) of Sacramento, CA, and Clyde Mowder (Bonnie) of Seattle, WA, three sisters, Aldeene Thomson of Winfield, KS, Dona Smith (Blair) of Sweet Home, OR, and Mary Gross of Godfrey. She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Mowder and a sister, Loverna Milacek.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Visitation will continue from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 12, 2012 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Godfrey. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Memorials may be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Alton ward.
