Jeffrey Newton

Jeffrey A. Newton, 64, passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2017, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

He was born January 3, 1953, in St. Louis, the son of Virgil S. and Ruth M. (Kinnamore) Newton. 

On July 4, 1975, Jeff married his wife of 42 years, Elizabeth “Libby” Dalhaus at 1st United Methodist Church in Wood River. She survives. 

Jeff was the owner/operator of Newton Heating and Cooling for 33 years prior to retiring in 2013. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto and 3rd Degree member of The Bethalto Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed Thursday Homeland Security meetings and his membership as a Bunco Boy. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. Jeff was a jack of all trades and an expert in fishing, hunting, HVAC, carpentry, electrical, concrete work, travel, craft distilling and generally having a good time. He taught many people these skills along with a never quit work ethic.

In addition to his wife, Jeff is survived by three children and their spouses, Anthony and Noelle Newton of Bethalto, Matthew and Katie Newton of Wood River, Kristin and Matt Wegener of Bethalto; nine grandchildren, Vincent, Franceska, Veruca, Nick, Joe, Jacob, Leah, Abe, Louise; and seven siblings and their spouses, Charlie and Wayneanne Newton of Brighton, Gary and Helen Newton of Edwardsville, Tim and Brigitte Newton of Florida, Mike and Trish Newton of Colorado, Tom and Diane Newton of Missouri, Betsy Meyer of Edwardsville, and Duke Newton - Cindy Ahrens of Edwardsville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one infant sister; brothers in law, Jim Terry, Joe Meyer; sister in law, Linda Newton; and one great niece, Maggie Bertram.

Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m, Saturday, August 12, 2017, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto with Fr. Tom Liebler officiating.

Memorials may be made to Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School.

Luncheon will follow at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church Gym.
