Carol passed away at her home in Jerseyville, Illinois on December 12, 2018 due to natural causes.
She was born November 12, 1951 in East St. Louis, the daughter of the late Cletus C. Canavan, Jr. and Jeanne Halpin Canavan. She graduated from St. Teresa Academy and earned a bachelor's degree from Illinois State University and a Master's Degree from Southern Illinois University.
Carol lived and worked for many years in Belleville, Illinois and St. Louis, Missouri and most recently in Jerseyville.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents and infant brother Kerry, as well as her grandparents and ex-husband, Gerald Zacharski.
She is survived by sisters: Claire (Tim Whalen) of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Colleen of Jerseyville; brothers: Shawn (Anna) of Anderstorp, Sweden and Kelly (Lindsay Ferris) of Madison, Wisconsin, plus adored niece and nephews: Maja, Lachlan, and August. In addition to her immediate family, Carol leaves behind many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Carol was a very kind, generous and loving person who was always willing to help others. She lived with and cared for her mother for many years before her death in 2006. Within the family, Carol was famous for her over-the-top organizing skills, her hand-written letters filled with underscores, exclamation points and asterisks, her professional-grade gift wrapping skills and her annual holiday baking endeavors, which produced many an amazing cheesecake. We will all miss her so much.
Private burial services will be held in Belleville at a later date.
