Jean Claire Highlander, age 92, of Edwardsville, Illinois passed away at Eden Care Center in Glen Carbon on Sunday, June 4, 2017. Jean was born July 12, 1924, in Edwardsville the only child of the late Hilbert and Bernetta (Gurney) Brockmeier. Jean was married to Louis Highlander by Rev. H. Bredehoeft on December 31, 1944, at Eden United Church of Christ in Edwardsville while Louis was on convalescent furlough from the U.S. Air Force. Louis Highlander preceded her in death on September 20, 2011.
Jean and Louis Highlander are survived by two sons, David Highlander and wife Diane (Waugh) and Danny Highlander and wife Cindy (Shaffer), both living in Edwardsville. Jean is also survived by three Grandchildren, Lindsay, Cole, and Emily Highlander. Jean and her family would also like to recognize her care giver and good friend, Brenda Edgeworth, who took loving care of her in the last 5 years of her life.
Jean was a life time member of Eden Church where she was a member of Circle 10. She was a member of Farm Bureau and Home Extension. She volunteered as a Pink Lady at Anderson Hospital. Jean was a member of Eastern Star and received her 50-year pin in 2015.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 8, 2017, at Eden Church, 903 N. Second Street, Edwardsville, IL. Service will follow at 11 a.m. Thursday at Eden Church with Rev. John Roberts officiating. Interment will be at Valley View Cemetery. A luncheon will follow immediately afterwards at Eden Church.
Memorials may be given to Eden Foundation of Ministries or Heartland Hospice. Weber & Rodney Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
