Jay S. Mourning, 56, died at 3:04 p.m., Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at St. Luke's Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., after battling heart disease for a number of years.
He was born in Jerseyville on June 8, 1959, and was one of six children born to C. Delbert & Evelyn Marie (Tucker) Mourning.Jay grew up in Jerseyville, and graduated in 1977 from Jersey Community High School. With a family background in real estate, Jay began working the finance and banking industry early on, beginning at the State Bank of Jerseyville and finishing his career at the Jersey State Bank in Jerseyville, with several institutions in between.He married the former Kathy Meyer on Sept. 4, 1982 in Jerseyville, and together they shared raising their two daughters, and continued a close relationship and tight friendship until this day.Surviving are his two daughters, Erica Mourning and Megan Mourning both of Jerseyville; a granddaughter, Stella Jay Hagarty; three brothers & sisters in law, David & Valerie Mourning of Wood River, Bruce & Sandy Mourning of Alton, and Scott & Janice Mourning of Jerseyville; a sister & brother in law, Terri & Danny Phelps of Jerseyville; a brother in law, Dean Muntz of Jerseyville; along with many nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Melody Ann Muntz on April 11, 2009.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday.He will be laid to rest alongside his parents at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.Memorials may be given to the Jerseyville Public Library.
