Janice Marie Pearson, 84, passed away at 8:45 a.m. on Sunday, February 11, 2024, surrounded by family. She was born December 22,1939 in Nebo, IL. She was the daughter of the late Burdette and Ercil (Rowley) Guthrie. Janice was a member of Godfrey First United Methodist Church. She worked for many years for Sears at the Alton and Northwest Plaza stores. On July 25,1959 in Pleasant Hill, IL she married Ted Pearson, and he survives. Also surviving is one son, Gary Dean Pearson (Lisa) of Godfrey and two daughters, JoEllen Davidson (Craig) of Godfrey, Beth Ann Groene (Stephen) of Foristell. She had six grandchildren, Bradley Dean Pearson (Katie), Molly Ann Witcher (Olen), Christa Jo Hollensteiner (Nathan), Jenna Beth Mindrup (Matthew), Maggie Marie Groene and Alyssa Jean Haney (Collin). She had six great grandchildren, Sadie Jo Pearson, Owen Bennett Pearson, Noah Andrew Witcher, Reagyn Marie Mindrup, Connor Samuel Mindrup, and Carson Joseph Haney. Janice had one brother, Dennis Guthrie (Twyla) and one sister in law, Marsha Wombles (Denny), and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Judy Capps.
Janice had a great love of family, and nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed vacations with her family and shelling on Ft. Myers Beach. Janice loved to cook and bake for her family. She also enjoyed reading, puzzles, and attending Cardinal Baseball games across the USA. Janice was known as a kind person with a great smile and a love of life.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 19,2024 at Godfrey First United Methodist Church. Reverend Jay Hanscom will officiate. The burial will be private at Crescent Heights Cemetery in Pleasant Hill, IL. Memorials may be made to Godfrey First United Methodist Church, Alzheimer’s Association, or the Five A’s Animal Shelter.
