Janet Laubscher

Jerseyville |

Janet Sue Laubscher, 70, left this world December 19, 2017 at her home with family.  She was born September 22, 1947 in Alton.  She is survived by her loving husband Larry Laubscher, whom she married April 20, 1974. She has two children she loved very much, a daughter Jessica and her husband Kevin Kolkmeyer and a son, Jeremy and his wife Teresa Laubscher. She also has two wonderful grandchildren, William Laubscher and Cadence Kolkmeyer. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Thomas and Lois Bryant of Red Bud, IL, Wayne (Jake) and Judy Bryant, Betty Clark, Paulette and William Robeen, all of Dow IL. She was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Pauline (Jenkins) Bryant. Janet graduated from Jersey Community High School in 1965.  Then became a bank teller at Jersey State Bank. She later became a postal clerk for the US Postal Service in Alton where she was known as the passport lady.  She also served as the Elsah Township Clerk for 44 years before retiring. Janet was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Calhoun Chapter #990. Janet was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She loved to feed family and friends and she made the best lemonade and cheesy potatoes.  New Year’s Eve was one of her favorite holidays to spend time with friends and eating lots of food. Janet enjoyed shopping, always in search of size 4 shoes. She often came home with more things for others than herself.  Although sometimes we wished she hadn’t.  Janet loved to read awful romance novels and go to book sales. She had a way of keeping everyone in line and moving in the right direction. Janet was always on the move and doing something. This was a stark contrast to her diagnosis of ALS which eventually left her unable to move and talk. We would like to thank all of the friends and family that came to visit with her over the last year. You have no idea how much that brightened her days.  Visitation will be held on Friday, December 22, 2017 from 4-8pm at Alexander & Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with an Order of the Eastern Star Service by the Calhoun Chapter #990 at 3:45pm.  The funeral proceedings will be Saturday, December 23, 2017 at 10 am, at Alexander & Gubser Funeral Home, followed by burial at Valhalla Cemetery in Godfrey. Reverend Sonny Renken will be officiating. Memorials may be made to the ALS Association.
