Janet S. (Klopmeier) Kutter

Janet S. (Klopmeier) Kutter, 70, went to be with her Lord on Monday, August 5, 2013, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Charles, MO, with her family by her side.


She was born on December 1, 1942, in Alton, IL, the daughter of the late Roland A. and Anita E. (Levi) Klopmeier.

She married William “Bill” R. Kutter on December 17, 1961, at Zion Lutheran Church.  He survives. 

Janet received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from SIUE and taught as an elementary teacher in the Bethalto Unit 8 School District for 35 years. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Madison County Retired Teachers Association, the Illinois Education Association, the Wood River Branch of American Association of University Women, and the Delta Kappa Gamma, Epsilon Chapter. She enjoyed music, puzzles, quilting, bridge, and traveling to see her grandchildren.  She loved spending time with her family and meeting friends for lunch.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Kathryn & David Kaelin of Highlands Ranch, CO; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ryan and Hayley Kutter of Cumming, GA, and Major Jeff Kutter of Columbia, SC; four grandchildren, Lauren and Erin Kaelin, William and Ryley Kutter; and a sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Fred Widman of Godfrey.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm on Friday, August 9, 2013, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. 

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 10, 2013, at Zion Lutheran Church of Bethalto with Pastor Willard Meyer and Pastor Matt Gehrke officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Janet Kutter Memorial Scholarship Fund for Zion Lutheran School, 625 Church Drive, Bethalto, IL 62010.
