Janet M. Grabner, 80, passed away at 6:25 am Tuesday November 19, 2013, at Alton Memorial Hospital with her family by her side.
She was born on August 27, 1933 in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of the late Clarence and Clara (Abelin) Simon.
Janet married Kenneth Grabner on October 29, 1955 in St. Louis, Missouri. He survives.
She was a dedicated wife to her husband of 58 years, and loving mother to her children and grandchildren. She volunteered at St. Patrick’s School in Alton and at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.
Janet is survived by her husband Kenneth, and six children and their spouses; Mary and Tom Bunce of Alton, Kenneth Jr. and Pat Grabner of Alton, Brian and Kathy Grabner of Wood River, Walter and Deborah Grabner of Alton, Jeff and Christine Grabner of Alton and David and Stephanie Grabner of Alton, ten grandchildren; Beth, Matthew, Taylor, Hayden, and Nick Grabner, Christina Reed, Megan Bunce, Wayne, Jimmy and Chris Price, one sister; Barbara Simon of St. Louis, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Marilyn McCarthy.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Thursday, November 21, 2013 at the Elias Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 am on Friday, November 22, 2013 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, with Father Jim Walther O.M.V. as celebrant.
Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
Memorials may be made to Marquette Catholic High School or St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
