Janet Ann Gorecki, age 85, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 25, 2012 at 10:08 am at De Paul Hospital in St. Louis, MO, with her family by her side.
She was born on April 21, 1927 in Edgerton, WI, the daughter of the late Carl Herman Albert & Clara (Fritzke) Schieldt. Janet grew up in Edgerton where she went to school and helped out on the three farms, which are still in the family today being farmed.
She married Doc Ferdinand Gorecki on December 11, 1948 in Edgerton, WI, they spent 30 years together and he passed away in December 27, 1978.
Janet graduated as an RN from Ravens Wood Hospital in Chicago, IL in 1948. She and her husband Dr. Gorecki opened in 1948 a small clinic in Jerseyville, seeing patients for 30 years until Doc passing in 1978. During this period they also went into partnership owning WJBM Radio Station from 1963 until 1985. In 2002 with her help and others she help to co-found Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto and is still open today. She became a board member at the Jerseyville Health Department in 1984, becoming president of the board in 1989 until present and served with great distinction. She also served for 20 years on the 518 South restaurant board, worked as a nurse for the American Red Cross blood banks for 25 years, was an ambassador of the chamber of commerce in Jerseyville, Jr. Women’s Club of Jerseyville and the American Numismatic Association. Janet was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Jerseyville for 50 years and served on the Altar Guild. She loved to travel, fish, play cards and spend time with her family and friends. She was a great lady and we will all sadly miss her.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janet Jo “JJ” & Gary B. Kallal of Jerseyville; one son and daughter-in-law, James Fred & Peggie Margaret Gorecki of Fredericksburg VA; three grandchildren and their spouses, Tim & Shellie Kallal of Bethalto, Christi & Mike Perkinson of Delhi and Gretchen & Lindy Gorecki-Roles of Bumpass, VA; four great grandchildren, Dillion, Alex, Isabella and Katie; one niece, Patsy Buehl of Janesville, WI; one nephew and his wife, Floyd & Janice Wileman of Edgerton, WI; several great and great-great nieces and nephews, close loved ones and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and two sisters, Lorraine Mary Foss and Lois Wileman.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Tuesday May 29, 2012 at Hope Lutheran Church in Jerseyville.
Visitation will continue from 9 am until time of funeral services at 10 am Wednesday May 30, 2012 at Hope Lutheran Church in Jerseyville with Pastor Darwin Schrader officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
Memorials may be made to Hope Lutheran Church in Jerseyville and or the Jerseyville Community Health Department.
