Jane-Ellen Kaegy

Jane-Ellen Kaegy, age 90, of Greenville passed away Friday morning, October 18, 2024, at Greenville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral: 12 p.m. Saturday, October 26, 2024, at the Donnell–Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m.–12 p.m. at the Donnell–Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. Interment will follow in Campground Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Bond County Hospice, Greenville Free Methodist Church, or the Greenville Presbyterian Church.

Jane-Ellen was born on April 17, 1934, at the Jarvis family home in Troy, Illinois. She was the daughter of Benjamin Edward and Ellen (Kranz) Jarvis. She grew up in Troy and graduated as the valedictorian of her class in 1952. Jane-Ellen loved to organize things and became a secretary for Scruggs Vandervoort and Barney Department Stores downtown St. Louis, Missouri. After a few years, she became a secretary for the Post-Dispatch Newspaper Food Editor. She also sang with a quartet of ladies and was quite busy.

In 1958, she came home for a family dinner and met her brother Ed’s friend Max Dean Kaegy. The spark was instant for both. They got married on July 3, 1960, at the Presbyterian Church. Jane-Ellen and Max made their home Greenville. She became a secretary at DeMoulin Brothers and worked there until starting their family.

They were parents of two sons who survive. Kevin John Kaegy and Michael Edward. Kaegy and wife Ann. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Elizabeth “Beth Ann” Kaegy, Nathan (Morgan) Kaegy, Dustin (Erin) Swarm, Stephen (Katie) Swarm, James (Fiancé Haylie) Kaegy, and four great-grandchildren: Janelle, Jorma, Juniper, and Ellis Swarm. Also survived by four cousins in the Troy area.

Jane-Ellen was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years Max D. Kaegy on October 10, 2021. Also preceded by her parents, brother Edward Lee Jarvis, dear friend and stepmother Annie B. Jarvis, and beloved Aunt Mary Zinkgraf of Troy.

Jane-Ellen gave her heart to the Lord and joined the Troy Presbyterian Church as a young girl. She and Max became very active in the Greenville Presbyterian Church after they were married. Later when the boys grew up, she became church secretary for about 10 years. She was also involved in the Bond County Home Extension and local Tops Club. She did card ministry for many years and was always sending notes of encouragement to others. She and Max enjoyed traveling after his retirement, especially the Bradford Travel Club for day trips. She kept up a large Correspondence with her and Max’s classmates.

They never missed a class reunion and a chance to reconnect with old friends. Jane-Ellen also never missed a Utlaut Memorial Hospital Health Fair in her life.
