Jan Kershaw

Jan Elizabeth Kershaw, age 65, of Edwardsville, Illinois died at 3:53 pm Sunday, July 29, 2018. She was born December 24,1952, in Alton, Illinois to John J. & Edith (Rohrkaste) Merkel. Jan married Michael G. Kershaw on August 2, 1970, at St. Charles, Missouri. Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Kristopher M. Kershaw & wife Jill of Burke, Virginia and Todd A. Kershaw & Julie Varble of Glen Carbon; three grandchildren, Alexa, Abigail, and Owen; brother Jeffery J. Merkel of Edwardsville; aunt Marion Merkel of Glen Carbon; cousin John E. Merkel & wife Cheryl of Edwardsville; 2 nieces, Jessica Schmitz of Kansas City, Missouri and Jenna Merkel of Overland Park, Kansas; and special friends Bill & Pamela Fuller of Edwardsville, and Barbara Hart of Collinsville.

Jan had a fulfilling career as a labor and delivery nurse, helping bring new lives into the world at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Granite City, and Touchette Regional Hospital in Centerville. She was an adventurous traveler, including mission trips to Africa and Peru, where she proudly delivered a baby in a local village. Jan was a gifted cook and quiltmaker, who reveled in creating meaningful and memorable keepsake gifts for family and friends. She was an avid and vocal fan of the St. Louis Blues. Jan graduated from Lewis & Clark Community College and was a member of the Alumni Association.

Visitation will be Friday August 3,2018 from 4 to 8 pm at Weber & Rodney Funeral Home. Services will be Saturday August 4, 2018 at 10 am at Weber & Rodney Funeral Home with Rev. John Roberts officiating. Jan will be buried with her parents and grandparents at Valley View cemetery in Edwardsville. Memorials may be given to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, or the Metro East Humane Society. Condolences may be expressed online at weberfuneralhome.com.
