James Allen Schrage, 72, passed away peacefully at 12:42 p.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, surrounded by his loving family.
Celebration of Life for James and Sue will be held Saturday, April 18, from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Edwardsville Moose Lodge.
Known to many as "Jimmy", he was born on February 6, 1953, to Mr. and Mrs. Marcellus J. Schrage in Highland, Illinois. James was the owner and operator of The Sign Shop in Edwardsville, Illinois, for many years, where he developed strong business relationships with many customers in the region and became a valued friend to everyone he met. He was a kind and caring person who was always ready to help others in need.
Jimmy is survived by his partner, Susan F. Ponce, of St. Louis, Missouri; his mother, Evelyn L. Schrage, of Edwardsville, Illinois; several brothers and sister, including, Carol Lewis (James) of Oklahoma; Duane Schrage (Kathleen) of Glen Carbon, Illinois; Ronald Schrage (Cindy) of North Carolina; Brenda Schrage (Joy Davis) of Edwardsville, Illinois; and Brian Schrage (Becky) of Edwardsville, Illinois, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Marcellus Schrage, and his sister, Janet Bollman.
Jimmy was a devoted member of a large family that valued their close and loving relationships. He cherished family gatherings, enjoyed playing golf, and remained fiercely loyal to the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team and the St. Louis Blues hockey team. Additionally, he looked forward to occasional trips to the casino, the botanical gardens, and the zoo.
