James R. Ele, 77, passed away at 5:00 pm Thursday June 29, 2017 at Alton Memorial Hospital with his family by his side.

He was born on February 8, 1940 in Alton, IL the son of Robert Ele and Virginia Lawrence.

James married Ruth Maxine Applegate on March 27, 1965, and she preceded him in death on February 18, 2013.

James worked as a mechanic for Ray Gremli Chevrolet and after retirement worked at Midwest Golf Cart. He was a long time member of the Eagles. He loved to golf and spend time with his family. James lived by the saying “take the day off”.

In addition to his mother he is survived by three daughters, Rhonda (Scott) Perkinson of Godfrey, Alice Kay (Michael) Beckham of Cottage Hills, Janet Schmidt (Brian Hutchens) of Alton; grandchildren, Amy (Anthony) Dillard, Amber Perkinson, Lexy Schmidt and Tanner Dunham; great grandchildren, Emma Sue Dillard and Dani Jo Dillard; several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Ele; two brothers, Richard Ele and Terry Ele.

Cremation rites have been accorded.
