James M. Norris, 98 died at 11:15 am Monday, October 31, 2016 at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehab. James was born September 29, 1918 in Edwardsville; he was the son of M.G. & Lydia (Weber) Norris. Graduated from Jersey Township High School, Class of 1936 and from Illinois College in Jacksonville in 1940, majoring in business. Drafted into the U.S. Army in 1941 and served in Panama in the Anti-Air Craft, during WWII until 1946. He returned to Jerseyville as manager of Wells -Norris. He married Juanita Wilkinson in 1950 and they spent over 66 years together. Jim was recalled to active duty as 1st Lt. in 1951. He served with the 485 combat engineer’s battalion in Erlangen, Germany as Commander of A Company during the Korean Conflict for 2 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Jerseyville, American Legion, VFW, Masonic Lodge, and a member of Shriners International. He had a life-long interest with aviation; he was one of the co-founders of the Jerseyville Airport. Learning to fly in the early ‘50s, he would love to take people for a ride over the area. He was on Westlake Country Club Development Board until 2009, when it was dissolved. He worked with the boy scouts and the cub scouts, and served 20 years with the Jerseyville Fire Department. He was the past President of Illinois State Tire Dealers. Surviving him is his wife: Juanita Norris; his two sons and daughter-in-laws: James Michael (Patricia Norris of Jerseyville and Thomas “Ed” (Beth) Norris of Gross Point, Michigan. His six grandchildren: James Dreyer Norris, William Edwin Norris, Mindy (Gary) Woelfel, Brian (Brenda) Allen. His great grandchildren: Holly & Brandy Woelfel, Kyla & Isabel Allen, Mason & Morgan Allen. And his many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and her husband: Charlene & James Wedding, one grandson: Shane Allen.
