James Lorden

James “Jim” E. Lorden, age 84, of Granite City, IL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at his home, wrapped in the love of the family who adored him. Born on April 29, 1941, in Chicago, IL, Jim entered the world as a blessing to his parents, the late Dennis J. Lorden and Mary Margaret (McEnerny) Lorden.

A proud United States Army veteran, Jim served his country with honor and humility—values that continued to guide him throughout his life. On April 14, 1962, he married the love of his life, Helen Sudholt, beginning a remarkable 63-year journey of devotion, partnership, and unwavering love. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, laughter, and the joy of raising their family. Jim was a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church, where he found strength and community.

Jim carried an unmatched work ethic and spent many dedicated years as an electrician with Lever Brothers. He also served with pride on the Lever Brothers Credit Union Board and was a longtime member of International Chemical Workers Union #344. Outside of work, his outgoing spirit drew him to the Paddlers Swim Club and at the YMCA, and he was known for cheering—loudly and loyally—for his beloved St. Louis Blues.

While Jim enjoyed his hobbies and community, his heart always belonged to his family. He was happiest surrounded by them—sharing meals, telling stories, offering advice, or simply enjoying each other’s company. His grandchildren were truly his pride and joy, and he cherished the honor of becoming a great-grandfather. His presence was a steady, loving anchor in their lives.

In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his infant son, Terrence Patrick Lorden, and by his siblings, Mary “Pat” Healy, Ted Lorden, and Terrence Lorden.

Left to treasure his memory are his beloved wife, Helen Lorden of Granite City, IL; his devoted children, Edward Lorden of Collinsville, IL, Kathy (Steve) Neal of Granite City, IL, and Krista (Ron Sr.) Weaver of Shipman, IL; his cherished grandchildren, Jessica Weaver, Ron Weaver Jr. (Dakota Wallace), Spencer (Savanah Luna) Neal, and Conner Neal; his treasured great-grandchild, Rocky Rose, and his dear sister-in-law, Barbara Lorden. He is also lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless friends.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Irwin Chapel in Granite City, IL.

A Memorial Mass celebrating Jim’s life will follow at 12:00 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, with Father Stephen Thompson officiating. He will be laid to rest at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville, IL.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Vitas Hospice and will be accepted at the funeral home.
