James Edward “Jim” Laws, 62, passed away at his home on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.
Born Nov. 3, 1962 in Alton, he was a son of Harold H. Laws, Jr. and Mary Ann (Hamilton) Laws.
The U.S. Coast Guard veteran worked as a carpenter for rehab housing, but was a self-proclaimed “Jack of all trades”, helping many of his family members with home projects. Jim enjoyed fishing, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, and especially spending time with his family.
He married Nancy K. McDaniels June 10, 2006 in East Alton. She survives, along with his children, Stephanie Laws and Jessica (John) Schaumleffel, all of O’Fallon, IL, Christopher (Crystal) Laws of Norfolk, VA, Jonathan Laws and Patricia Laws (Corado Caruso) all of O’Fallon; several grandchildren who loved him dearly; two sisters, Claudia Laws-Milford of Alton and Dr. Susan J. Laws (Donna Sheppard) of Winchester, TN; three brothers, Dr. Michael (Anna) Laws of Florissant, MO, Dr. Joseph (Mitzi) Laws of Bridgeton, MO, and John (Dawn) Laws of Rosewood Heights; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harold William “Bill” Laws and Robert H. “Bob” Laws; and a brother-in-law, David Laws-Milford.
Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 27, 2024 at Paynic Home for Funerals from 4 p.m. until services begin at 7 p.m. Inurnment will be at a later date at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
