James L. Ricks, age 74, of Bethalto, passed away Saturday, August 11, 2018, at his home.
He was born January 23, 1944, in Alton, the son of Alfred and LeOra (Meyers) Ricks. He married Carol Ann Jenkins in October of 1969 in Brighton, and she survives.
James was a Vietnam Veteran who served in the Marine Corps. He enjoyed working outside, gardening and maintaining his yard. James enjoyed reading history books and taking car trips with Carol, his wife. He will be remembered as being a devoted family man.
In addition to his wife, Carol; he is survived by his children, Becky Montgomery, and her longtime partner, Wilson Schwager, of Alton; and Edward and Belinda Ricks of Cottage Hills; two sisters, Judy and Keith Webber of St. Peters, MO, and Janice and Jerry Moore of Bethalto; six grandchildren, Matthew, Jenny, and Christopher Montgomery, and James, Jacob, and Rosa Ricks; and six great-grandchildren, Jayden and Jordan Cato, Landon Baker, Jordan Baker, and Jason and Americas Austin.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and a niece, Karen.
Visitation will be held Friday August 17, 2018, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 11:00 am at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens with Military Rites provided by VFW Post #1308.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors.
