James Koen

James R. Koen, 76, of Hartford, IL, passed away at 6:16 p.m. Tues. Sept. 26, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born January 17, 1947 to Joel and Hazel (Talley) Koen. 

On January 3, 1966 he married his High School sweetheart, Maureen (Lankford) Koen whom he celebrated 50 years with before she passed.  He then wed Mary Ann Bradley on September 5, 2015.

In addition to his wife Mary Ann, he is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Michelle and Brian Osborn, Keegin (Koen) Morgan and grandson Kevin Osborn all of Bethalto, IL.  He was also blessed with his stepchildren, Tony Bradley of Brighton, IL and Christina Bradley (Jesse Delaney) of East Alton, IL.  He is also survived by his sister, Judy (Koen) and Christopher Voelker of Edwardsville, IL and brother, John and Lori Koen of Wellsburg, NY. Besides his children he was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jill Ann Koen and a brother, Joe Koen.

Jim was the founding member and President for more than 20 years of the Dream Weavers Motorcycle Club.  He was a meticulous machinist and carpenter.  He worked for many years at Olin Corp before retiring from Conoco Phillips in 2006.

Jim was involved with many organizations over the years such as Past President of the Alton H.O.G. chapter, A.B.A.T.E. member, board member for Patches and Badges for kids and a member of the Alton Moose Lodge.

He was a handyman that could fix almost anything and besides being remembered for his exceptionally manicured lawn, he will be remembered for the generosity he gave to all those that crossed his path.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at Noon, Sat. Sept. 30, 2023 at Paynic Home for Funerals with Mike Link officiating.  Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Edwardsville.

Memorials may be made to Patches and Badges for Kids.
