James “Jim” Howard Cooper, 75, passed away at 2:18 pm, Monday, July 7, 2014 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Alton, IL.  

He was born in Seminole, OK on July 4, 1939 and was raised in Texas. He was the son of the late Andrew and Bertha Cooper.

He married Georgia Lumley on June 30, 2003 in Las Vegas.

Jim was a Lieutenant for the Hazelwood Police Department, where he retired in 1999.  He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church. Jim loved hunting, fishing, and riding motorcycles. He enjoyed reading and joking around. His family was the most important thing in his life. 

He is survived by his wife, Georgia VanWinkle Cooper; three children, Andy Cooper of New Melle, MO, Amy VanWinkle Mosbacher (Doug) of Meadville, PA, and Anne Cooper of Ballwin, MO; along with five grandchildren, Jim Cooper, Jordan Cooper, Emily Cooper, Hanna Mosbacher and Abby Mosbacher.

In addition to his parents, and he was preceded in death by one son, David Cooper; one granddaughter, Katie Cooper; and two sisters, Genevieve Voegelie and Avis Holbrook.

Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 am on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey.

A Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until time of memorial service at 5:00 pm on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Hutchens Mortuary, 675 Graham Rd, Florissant, MO 63031 with Pastor Harry Smith officiating.

Per his wishes, his body was donated to Saint Louis University School of Medicine.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
