James “Jim” E. Runge

James “Jim” E. Runge, 85, passed away at 10:05 am Sunday, October 26, 2014 at VIP Manor in Wood River with his family by his side.

He was born on June 12, 1929 in Fort Gage, IL, the son of Ed and Irene (Brown) Runge.

He married Darlene R. Dethrow on December 29, 1947 in Chester, IL. She survives. 

Jim served his country in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1947 serving in WWII.  He was a mold maker for Owens Illinois Glass for 27 years until his retirement in 1984.  He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Cottage Hills. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Pam (Bob) Grether of Oconomowoc, WI, Kathy (Alan) Winslow of Cottage Hills, Lisa (Mike) Johnson of Lexington, KY, Debra Runge (Kathy Sidwell) of Moro, Mike (Beth) Runge of Jerseyville and Brian Runge of Alton; eleven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one great, great grandchild; his siblings and their spouses, Charles Runge of Eureka, MT, Faye Downey of Anna, IL, Betty Place of Dewey, OK, Roger Surman of Barnhart, MO, Shirley Dunker of Chester, IL and Linda Shout of Murphysboro, IL and several nieces and nephews. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Michelle Runge and a brother, Rick Runge.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.

Visitation will continue from 9:00 am until funeral services at 10:00 am Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at Concordia Lutheran Church in Cottage Hills with Pastor Matt Gehrke officiating.

Burial will follow at Ellis Grove Cemetery in Ellis Grove, Illinois.

Memorials may be made to Concordia Lutheran Church, in Cottage Hills, Illinois.
